Sweet dalgona-style candy topping keeps burning, tips?

Hi friends, so after watching another Korean drama with my kids we got inspired to try making that sweet dalgona candy at home here in Cebu. But every single time I melt the sugar it either burns too fast or turns out too bitter before I can even shape it, sayang talaga! I only have a simple pan and spoon, no fancy thermometer, and I do this in between my shifts so I don't always have time to watch it slowly. Does anyone know the right heat level or timing so it turns golden and sweet instead of burnt? Would really appreciate any tips, salamat po in advance!
